Crystal's Walk

Today Zach participated in Crystal's Walk, a fundraiser to benefit the local Candlelighters, supporting families of children with cancer. He raised donations and donned his rollerblades for an hour of trekking (gliding) around the park. He did a really good job and I'm proud of him, and he was quite proud of himself as well.

On the way there we found this tortoise. The sun was really bright and I didn't get a chance to play with the settings as Owen was getting antsy in the stroller. Poor baby, he spent a few hours sitting in that stroller today.

Here is a picture of Zach with his sensei, Kyoshi Steve. He has been given the title of Kyoshi, which is more than 'sensei' but I can't remember all the details behind it. Ask me a couple of months ago when he explained it LOL. Crystal was Kyoshi's daughter, she passed away 7 years ago, and since then the Kabboords have organized Crystal's Walk and Ride every year to raise money for other families. Part of the opening ceremony involved a butterfly release, all the children and Candlelighter families had a small envelope with a butterfly inside, which were gently opened allowing the butterflies to go up and away. Very beautiful and touching. Very hard to photograph, so I have nothing to show of it. It was a wonderful, albeit hot and tiring, day, Zach had a great time and he even won a raffle basket complete with Checkers game and Bakugan.

How wonderful that Kyoshi is able to look through his grief and see Crystal's life (and death) as an opportunity to help other families. His description of his philosophy is touching.
